The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) conducted a lengthy interrogation on Monday with the former Minister of Social Development, Disaster Management, and Humanitarian Affairs, Sadiya Umar-Farouk, regarding accusations of fraud.

A reliable source within the EFCC confirmed to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the former minister willingly appeared at the commission's headquarters on Monday morning.

"The former minister upheld her commitment to attend the commission's invitation concerning the alleged misappropriation of a multibillion-naira social intervention fund during her tenure," stated the source.

The source indicated that Umar-Farouk might be allowed to return home initially and might be required to come back for further questioning on Tuesday.

"She might not be detained immediately; there is a possibility she will be allowed to go home, but it will be late, and she has been instructed to report again tomorrow (Tuesday) morning for additional interrogation," the source added.

The ongoing EFCC investigation focuses on the alleged laundering of a substantial N37.1 billion by officials of the ministry during Umar-Farouk's time as minister.

A week ago, the EFCC also questioned Mrs. Halima Shehu, the suspended National Coordinator, and Chief Executive Officer of the National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA), which falls under the ministry's supervision.

Mba in an interview with Channels Television on Wednesday said the investigation will include forensic analysis of the video and highlight of the Senator’s actions.
“We have commenced investigations into the incident, our investigation will be holistic. We are looking at every facet of that incident. We will carry out a forensic analysis of the video.
“We will look at the conduct of the Senator. We will also look at the actions and inactions of the policeman that was in that video,” he said.

Mba also added that the investigation will be carried out promptly noting that “justice delayed is justice denied.”
“Nigerians should rest assured that we will not only be professional, but we will also be fair, just and ensure that the right thing is done promptly,” he added.
The CCTV footage of Senator Abbo beating a woman who tried to prevent him from assaulting another woman sparked outrage on Tuesday after it was published by Premium Times. Many Nigerians condemned his action and called for his prosecution, urging the Senate to also discipline him.

Senator Abbo later confirmed to Channels Television that he is indeed the man in the video and that he would release an official statement in reaction to the assault video.
Representing Adamawa North Senatorial District, Abbo later apologised to Nigerians, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and women, in general, saying he is sorry for his action.
The Inspector General of Police (IGP) M.A Adamu has however ordered a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the case.

Specifically, the IGP directed the Commissioner of Police in charge of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, CP Bala Ciroma to provide a personal and round-the-clock supervision of every facet of the investigation including the forensic analysis of the video currently in circulation as well as the actions and inactions of the policeman seen in the video footage.
